LARP Bulgaria 2011/2012

The closing 2011 will be remembered with the languor and small number of events of the first six months followed by a greater activation and enthusiasm in the late summer and autumn. The sense of decline in morale is subjective, but only logical after the eventful and emotional 2010th, as well as due to the general background created by the world economic crisis and its consequesnces for the country.

It is subjective, because looking back, we can see that the year was not actually weak and unsuccessful for us. To begin with, as every winter, this year too a winter game organized by the larp clan “The Pack” took place in February consisting of a day combat part and a roleplay evening.

With less success and some more organizational shortcomings compared to 2010 - but the big summer larp near Dobrostan village, organized by the larp clan "Warriors of the Seven hills", Borislav Barzev and Ilina Konakchieva "Hellen" – continued the development of the Dragon Realm clan setting and its characters. This is important and good for us, as for the fifth time those characters met in the same setting to continue the same story. Thus the world continued developing, becoming more consistent and more real. It does not turn out anymore that each time we play the same characters who somehow, however, find themselves in different universes; and relations between the clans and the characters become more based on events that actually happened in the game reality. We could say today that a real clan world has come into existence along with the classic old worlds of the Sofia LARPs and the Varna society "Earthsea" LARPs. 2011 was also the year in which the links between larp communities of Bulgaria and Serbia have been strengthened as it so happened that this game was the first to be visited by a large group of foreign players.

This year not only did we not neglected games on themes other than fantasy, but the tradition has evolved and their diversity increased. We had the opportunity to participate in the  the third part of the "Stalker LARP" series of "Gadina Prokleta" - which this time took place within the premises of the former metallurgical plant Kremikovtzi. This was also another major step towards cooperation with institutions, organizations and business entities.

Here also comes the second edition of the "Ballroom LARPs"  of Lubomira Stoyanova "Mellindor" which carried the participants to the Victorian era.

And we have been taken even farther back in history by the  "Ancient" LARP, organized by the larp caln "The Order of the Eight," which put the participants in the atmosphere of the Olympics against a most complicated military-political background.

And last but not least in this series, an event with a small number of participants however elite ones, including fans from age 25 + who had never before participated in a LARP – the game based on the R. Zelazny novel '”A Night in the Lonesome October", organized by Mariana Bodganova "Lady Marian".

Our serious public appearances in cooperation with different partners continued as well, each contributing in their own way to promotion of the larp games in our country. For the first time a game has been held before “civilian" audience, with the sponsorship of our traditional partners from  Pulsar. "The Blood Bowl LARP", organized by "Gadina Prokleta", offered the excitement of a real sport competition missed by so many players.

Fantasy Unlimited" also continued cooperating with our long-term partners from Hermes Publishing House. We provided dressed participants for the publishing houses's twentieth anniversary celebration and on the occasion of Halloween we organized together a happening for children, which took place in Plovdiv's Central Park. The “Fairy Night” event at club "Березка" organized on the same occasion provided the bar's customers with the opportunity to see and be involved in different aspects of a LARP game.

And near the end of the year the enthusiasm optimistically rose again and almost reached the levels of the last year with two very successful games. The third part of the saga "The Clash of Religions", organized by Kiril Dragomirov "Red Nasmish" and Margarita Nikolova "Noriel" traditionally held at temperature anomalies and featuring our friends from Varna Association for Historical Reenactment "Chigot".

The game "The Misty Paths", organized by Kiril "Varg" on its turn offered something very different and pleasant variety with its unconventional approach to quests.

And so this year does pose challenges to the next, which we must not underestimate. What awaits us - the calendar has not been filled yet, but we already know some of the highlights. We hope to start the year with the winter war game "War" in the  Dragon Realm, followed by a roleplay evening in the same setting. In spring we expect a sci-fi steam-punk game. In early May we hope that a significant number of us will have the opportunity to visit the annual LARP event in Vladimirovac, Republic of Serbia. During the summer we expect the ending of the saga of the Evil Forces, which have been now for long set the Dragon Realm in chaos.
